The New Mexico Folk Music and Dance Society - FolkMADS - is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting and teaching traditional music and dance. FolkMADS sponsors Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Taos contra dances, Megabands, concerts, camps, and other special events.

Adobe Brothers

An eclectic group of identical quintuplets that play a wide variety of acoustic music including bluegrass, celtic, old timey, latin folk music, and western swing, a composite style they refer to as “international bluegrass.”

Albuquerque Megaband

Cheap Shots An eclectic acoustic dance and performance band featuring a mix of traditional American Old Time, New Time and Celtic music. The band also plays bluegrass, swing, vocal, and original tunes and songs. Jimmy Abraham, Pat Aruffo, Bill Balassi, John Brinduse, Peter Esherick, Erika Gerety.

The Evening Shift* The Evening Shift* is a community (open) band playing only the "2nd Sunday" English Country and Contra Dances. Due to the complexity of the material (sheet music and HARMONIES for the English Country & Waltzes), you need to get in on the practice cycle a month or two ahead of the dance. We will usually play the last dance of the Spring (May 2nd Sunday) and Fall (December 2nd Sunday) seasons each year. Contact Gary Papenhagen, 242-1104.

Sandia Hots

Lively Southern Appalachian dance tunes and songs, cowboy and early 20th century swing numbers, songs and dance tunes from New Mexico, Mexico and Southern Arizona. Linda Askew, Michael Gallagher, Scott Mathis, Liz Stevens.

SyZyGy Sherilyn Urben, Holly Deuel Gilster, Mike Reddig.
The Thrifters / Anonymous Tomato The Thrifters - Deb Bluestone violin/viola, Dave Faires guitar/percussion/vocals, with pianist Dorenda Morse - play a diverse repertoire of traditional Irish/Scottish contra dance music with swingy pieces from contemporary tunesmiths.
